This work, created by dripping black wax onto a canvas, visualises the perpetual interplay between order and chaos. In both the microscopic and macroscopic realms, patterns emerge through self-organisation, forming structures that embody order. Yet, this order is never permanent—it inevitably dissolves into disorder, only to give rise to new patterns. This cycle is the essence of life itself and the fundamental rhythm of the universe.
Apoptosis refers to programmed cell death, a mechanism through which living organisms maintain harmony and renewal. It is not merely an end but a transition—destruction that begets creation. This concept resonates with quantum mechanics, where reality exists in a superposition of possibilities until observation collapses the wave function, manifesting a single state. In this sense, order arises from uncertainty, much like how structures emerge from entropy.
On a cosmic scale, the universe itself is moving toward heat death, a state of maximum entropy. Yet, this is not necessarily an absolute end—it may be a precursor to new forms of order yet to unfold. Apoptosis symbolises this eternal cycle of transformation, capturing the fragile yet profound beauty found between destruction and rebirth.
