Tomoyasu Ishizuka is a Japanese artist and designer passionate about creating/ developing experiential installations, sculptures, and spaces using analogue and digital technologies, considering materiality and immateriality.

I like to explore the relationship between nature and human senses and produce works that transcend boundaries within the design and art spheres, unconstrained by material or form. I find beauty in how forms constantly change due to the influence of nature, such as wind, temperature and gravity, as if they were alive and that unpredictable expressions appear and disappear repeatedly. Adding aspects of human manipulation, such as coding and interactivity, to these movements, I believe we could further expand the possibilities of installation art.

My upbringing in Japan, a land of breathtaking natural beauty and frequent, devastating natural disasters, has deeply influenced my artistic perspective. With its awe-inspiring power and constant state of flux, nature holds a special topic in my heart. Through my art, I am driven to express the transient nature of our world, the providence of nature, the impermanence (Mujō), and the cycle of life and death.

The profound teachings of Zen philosophy have enriched my creative journey and led me to question the modern obsession with material values and the relentless pursuit of perfection. At the same time, I am intrigued by quantum mechanics, the Buddhist notion of emptiness/nothingness, and the power of immaterial effects, such as sound and light, which inspire me to delve deeper into the mysteries of our existence.
